The Fellows of the New York Academy of Medicine embody the highest levels of achievement and leadership in the fields of medicine and health as well as science, social work, nursing, education, law and research.

Fellows are an elite group of physicians, academicians and other health professionals of the utmost distinction who, taken together comprise a body of knowledge, expertise and commitment that is the foundation of NYAM's strength. They are leaders in thought, action and vision who have dedicated their lives and careers to working to improve the health of the public.

The Sabin Vaccine Institute announced the election of NYAM Board member, Morton P. Hyman as its new Chairman. Mr. Hyman, a Board member since 2005, has extensive experience in leadership of philanthropic, business and governmental organizations.

In recognition of his leadership, commitment and dedication, Mr. Hyman has received numerous awards, including an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (honoris causa) from New York Medical College; 2002 Healthcare Leadership Award from the United Hospital Fund; 2001 Trustee of the Year Award from Modern Healthcare Magazine; 2002 Leadership in Business Award from the New York Business Group on Health; and the 2000 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.


NYAM Fellow Neil Calman, MD, President and CEO of the Institute for Family Heath was one of three physicians in the country to receive the Physician Advocacy Merit Award from the Institute on Medicine as a Profession (IMAP) and its partner, the Center on Medicine as a Profession (CMAP) at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.   More...

The group announced the winners of their inaugural Merit Award at a conference November 14, 2008, given to recognize physician advocates for promoting the principles of civic engagement and medical professionalism.
